    Wow! That was such a great basket! This was something I was hoping to do for my daughter, but she actually got her period like a month after she turned 10! Sooo early. I didn't get mine until I was in middle school.

    Thanks for another great video! My daughter is 11, and I’ve started introducing her to similar ideas. Personally, I prefer using cloth napkins, as they are gentler on both your body and the environment. Skin can be quite sensitive during menstruation, and I’ve found that cloth napkins alleviate some of the discomfort I experienced with traditional pads. Yes, they require a bit more effort and can be messy at times, but they are a natural and eco-friendly option. If you're open to it, I encourage you to explore this option!

    So this is a very over due comment…I have been watching your videos since I had just become pregnant with my daughter (she’s 12 in December) the very first I watched was the bag of items you purchased before being pregnant..became obsessed because of all the cute brands I got to know through the chancel. My now husband is from Texas (I’m from Uk and we live in England) and I go there now wanting to find all these brands and places and he’s like “how do you know all these brands and stores” I’m like oh just a nice lady I watched on RUclips😂. All the consignment hauls..I’m not in a position to homeschool but still appreciate the videos and the birthday/Christmas/Easter videos too for inspo. I have just thought about doing something similar to this for my daughter so I found it great that you uploaded this…all this to say thank you so much for making these and all the book recs are appreciated. You do a fab job

    Hi! Nice to finally see you. What a great change of video. I too am more confidant showing books and things and not my own face. I too, after doing some research on ADHD have seen myself in what I was reading. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this topic. This was extremely helpful. My daughter is the type of child, I’m learning, who needs a lot of repetition and practice to remember anything that she isn’t interested in. I’m starting to realize why she hates Lightning Literature she can’t remember anything she learned!! I keep thinking I should move to Beowulf Grammar and/or Editor in Chief but those seem similar to Lightning Lit not enough practice. I never considered Fix it! before just now for her, my older one hated it, but it might be perfect for her with all the repetition, and she also does well with quick workbook pages she can get done fast lol thanks again for this. I think our girls and boys are similar respectively, just swapped ages!!! lol

      @@TheMommaLibrarian I truly appreciate you taking the time to answer. As my kids get older, I feel like they need more time with certain skills and subjects and not less. I am seeing secular youtubers that I have followed for several years now, say that they are finishing in 3-3.5 hours with more than one kid and I was alarmed. I am a former teacher so I do not skip writing, science, or social studies in our rotated core in addition to the typical ELA and math that most homeschoolers do daily. I would greatly appreciate an overview after you finish your first week.

    Yes. I resonate so much. I like to share what I plan to use but I don’t like to do updates until I’ve used curriculum pretty thoroughly. This means I don’t always update because some things just really don’t work like I planned. I started RUclips in 2010. It was SUCH a different platform back then. It was so much more of a community. I really have struggled with the change to it being more performative over the years. I’m also really struggling now that I have my own curriculum that I write. I want to share about that some on my channel, but I don’t want that to be all I share. I know this curriculum isn’t for everyone. I don’t want people to think they have to use it or even be interested to be a part of my channel. I really am struggling with this transition as well. (Also really struggling with time balance and prioritizing RUclips in general.) It’s so hard too, because I know I have a ton of knowledge and experience, but I don’t want to position myself as an expert. I struggle with knowing what to share that will actually be useful. I don’t like making content just to fill a pre-determined schedule. I hope the videos I make are actually helpful. I agree with so much of what you said. RUclips isn’t what it used to be. There are so many channels I used to enjoy that have become more commercial and I feel like are creating content to get sponsorships or keep up with the algorithm. It’s just not the same.

    Thank you so much for the flip-through! I'm finding it a bit difficult to figure out which LL level is right for my student because it doesn't have a scope & sequence. I'd especially like to see what grammar and literary analysis concepts are taught week to week. We use Well-Ordered Language, which we love for the in-depth grammar lessons, so my child is ahead in grammar. But we're somewhat behind in literary analysis, unfortunately. I'd like to choose Storm if the lit analysis lessons aren't too dependent on what was taught at the LL grade 6 level. It's hard to tell.

    I know from previous videos that you've done IEW for writing. How do you feel the Exploring the World Through Story works with the skills and process they learn in IEW for the writing part? Is the approach completely different or can they take what they learn in IEW and apply it here without feeling like they're ignoring other instructions?

    • @TheMommaLibrarian
      @TheMommaLibrarian 10 дней назад

      I felt like it complemented IEW well. It didn’t use keyword outlines. The first half was spent building sentences in different ways using The Writing Revolution style. Then they worked on intro and concluding sentences. Then topic sentences. Then expanding those with examples. Then revising to include more interesting or detailed words. Then editing. I don’t think that it clashed with IEW at all.

    What parts of the Harbor & Sprout curriculum do you use? I purchased the mythology unit but there is so much stuff for like little kids and I didn’t love the math or LA portions, history was also lacking. The science and nature parts seem to be the best parts. Also I thought there would be a lot more videos and books? What am I missing lol 😂

    • @TheMommaLibrarian
      @TheMommaLibrarian 10 дней назад

      I think Mythology is a patchwork study. I’ve not used any of that type. All the ones I bought are either primary or secondary unit studies so they don’t have all of the preschool stuff added, nor are they broken up by subject, if that makes sense. Depending on the topic, they will have a resource list in the back but it’s not heavy in that like BYL or Blossom and Root are. The unit studies that we have done are set up with modules where you read the information section and the so the notebooking and activity ideas. I think the patchwork studies are different.

Like many of us don't have the wealth/social connections that give people a leg up as they enter adulthood, but if you do... you can "afford" to be poorly educated.

    I totally agree with everything! I thought your critical thinking pet peeve was going to be that if just doing a logic puzzles workbook is not going to develop critical thinking skills in any meaningful way (which is my pet peeve lol). I think a lot of people don't really understand what critical thinking consists of and either assume it just means "winning arguments", or see any workbook with "critical thinking" or "logic" the cover and just hit buy now so they can say they taught it.

    I appreciate that you talk about falling behind. I try really hard to get all the things done so that my kids have a better education than what is offered from our school district. I often don’t fit in with other homeschoolers, and this topic is not the exception. I find more like minded homeschoolers on RUclips than in person. Thank you for your videos!

    I enjoy watching hauls, DITL, homeschool setups, and all of that kind of stuff, but views on RUclips do not translate to success in homeschooling. I hate that homeschooling has become just an aesthetic. THAT is my pet peeve. Sometimes I find it hard to watch homeschool content because of all the product pushing and it seems like nothing is genuine anymore.
